senior portraits don't have to be complicated
Senior year is rife with enough stress - let this guide serve as a template for you so there can be one less thing on your plate. When it comes to considering all of the options, it can be summed up far more easily than you might expect!
01.
meaningful settings
If you have any particular sense of nostalgia or comfort embedded into a specific location, this might be a sign that it could be the right place for your senior portrait! Prioritizing a sense of familiarity and ease when choosing the setting for your photos will empower you to feel like your best self and allow you to relax into your session!
02.
working with the elements
For your session, consider the elements at play - shorter dresses and skirts can make for posing challenges during your shoot, due to the wind (especially near the water). For the best results, longer, flowier dresses and skirts that work alongside the wind - instead of against it - are usually a safe choice! Jeans for a more casual look also work well, especially for longer sessions that include an outfit change. You may consider steering away from wide-leg jeans, as they may overwhelm the body and make it appear wider than it is on camera!
03.
natural beauty
Overwhelmed by choice when it comes to outfits? Revert back to the basics! Often, we look our best when we choose colors that flow seamlessly into our skin tone, eye color, and hair color. Choosing colors that drastically contrast from the colors that naturally make up our palette can sometimes cause a sense of discord to the eye, after the fact.
04.
Color story
To create a cohesive color story in your senior portrait, think about the chosen environment - for beachy photos, think of creamy whites, sandy beiges, and light and airy blues. For locations rich with greenery and florals, muted shades of greens and pinks look fantastic. When in doubt, if you book a longer session, packing something in a white or cream is always a good plan!
natural beauty
When we use our own natural features to guide the eye, we're often met with beautiful results. When in doubt, using our hair color or eye color as the base for our outfit choice is a great place to start!
My goal for all of my 2026 seniors, as it has been every year since starting my business, has been to provide a comfortable, fun, and accommodating atmosphere. New England is possibly one of the most beautiful backdrops to showcase your sendoff into adulthood - let's make it one for the books!
